Councillor James Abbott has been a member of the Council since May 1999, representing Silver End and Rivenhall. Bradwell was added to the ward from 2003 to 2015, now replaced by Cressing following the latest boundary change. Councillor Abbott has also represented Witham Northern Division on Essex County Council since 2013 and is a member of Rivenhall Parish Council (Chairman since 2007).

Councillor Abbott is a member of the Braintree District Local Highways Panel and the Developing Democracy Group. He also represents the Council on the Rivenhall Playing Fields Association, which manages Rivenhall Village Hall.
